Knowing the weight of every component on an aircraft, down to the last wire, is vital to good design. This test is to be used to evaluate the weight of a finished wire specimen, it may also be applied to uninsulated conductor for certain standards.
Measurements of wire weight may be made of loose wire at least 10ft in length or on a spool/ reel of wire with the tare weight of the spool/ reel subtracted from the result. Weight measurements are performed on a scale whose accuracy is defined in the chosen test standard. The recorded weight is converted to pounds per 1000 ft and is the resultant finished wire weight.
