The drip test is an evaluation of the filler material inside a cable and its tendency to drip from the cable at elevated temperatures. The sample is hung on an apparatus such that one end is held in place while the other is free to hang vertically over a receptacle intended to catch any potential drippings. The sample is then placed in an oven at the specified temperature for a minimum of 18 hours, after which time the receptacle is inspected for any material that has fallen away from the specimen.
