This test evaluates the differential scanning calorimeter (dsc test) of wire specimens as specified in EN3475. The test is performed in accordance with the procedures defined in the standard to verify compliance with the applicable requirements.
Test specimens are prepared and conditioned as specified, then subjected to the defined test procedure. Results are compared against the acceptance criteria established in the product specification to determine conformance.
This test is used to evaluate the degree of sinter (or densification) of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) insulation on a wire specimen as described in ASTM D 4591. Differential scanning calorimetry is a technique used that determines the difference in the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of a wire insulation. The end result of this test is a DSC curve which illustrates the heat flux vs. temperature. This technique has multiple applications, however is commonly used it determine the thermal transitions of polymers in insulation.
