For connectors, it is imperative that contact does not release when placed under the normal and dynamic stresses of operation. Furthermore, once engaged in a connector, the contact (pin or socket) should hold firm under simple tugging that may occur during installation or maintenance actions.
This test examines the axial force necessary to displace a contact from the proper location when inserted into a connector. The pass/fail criteria of the sample are based on the particular specification.
As the number of test trials is dependent on the number of connector contacts, the price per test may change based on the number of trials to be performed.
Our Process
Mount the connector into the force test unit, such that it is facing the axis of applied force.
Place contact into the test connector and record the initial location.
Apply a defined force onto the contact up to the specified value and dwell for several seconds.
Remove the applied force and measure the contact displacement.
Repeat test at other connector positions.
Report the applied force, the number of pins tested, recorded displacement, and any other relevant test parameters.
