Also referred to as the wire size test, this evaluation measures the sample’s conductor diameter after the insulation has been removed. This test method is important for
- identifying the proper amount of conductor used for a particular gauge.
- Verifying that the supplied wire has not been misrepresented.
The test report includes the measured conductor diameter and the average conductor diameter for each specimen measured.
Our Process
Visually examine the sample for any defects. Report any observations.
Remove the insulation from the specimens without damage or distortion of the conductor.
Measure the conductor diameter in at least three locations along the length of the stripped conductor. For wire sizes 8 and larger, a circumferential measuring tape calibrated for diameter measurements may be used in lieu of the micrometer method.
Report results.
