Lectromec has been working on XL-ETFE (Tefzel®) wire insulation age degradation analysis research since 2010. The goal of the research is to develop data for an age degradation model similar to the ones used in WIDAS or Inherent Viscosity. Below is information about the research and the practical application of the results to a service life extension program.
Results of XL-ETFE degradation analysis on an aircraft or fleet
- Current condition of the wire (is the wire fit to be on placed on an aircraft)
- Projection of remaining wire life (based on a combination of age, test results, and operating conditions of the wires). Projections on increase in age degradation related failures will be estimated to the nearest maintenance cycle
- Probability of failure data for full EWIS risk assessment
