This test evaluates the radial shrinkage of a heat shrink insulation sample to ensure the insulation shrinks to the appropriate dimensions as identified in the detail specification.
There are two methods with which this test may be performed:
- Unsupported – The heat shrink sample is placed on a tray in the oven.
- Supported – The heat shrink sample is placed on an appropriately sized mandrel as defined by the standard.
In both methods, the sample is exposed to the temperature and time as identified in the product specification. After the heat exposure, the inside diameter of the sample is measured in accordance with Method 5.3.2.
