In this test, the polyimide (or modified polyimide) topcoat of a sample wire is exposed to boiling water vapor and visually examined for cracking.
The test sample is exposed to boiling water vapor for 1 hour atwhich point it is removed from the test fixture. A small segment is cut from the vapor-exposed wire and allowed to cool to room temperature for 15 minutes. the segment is then wrapped tightly around the specified mandrel and examined for cracks in the polyimide topcoat.
