Method 4.6.4 tests tensile strength after temperature exposure for tie-down strap assemblies. The samples are prepared for the tensile strength test by removing the wire bundle from the test fixture, then removing the center wire(s) from the bundle to permit the wire bundle to collapse.
The tie-down strap assembly is slipped off the collapsed bundle and remounted to the test fixtures. The tensile strength test specified in 4.6.1 is then performed on the thermally conditioned specimens.
This test evaluates whether the tie-down strap materials retain adequate mechanical strength after exposure to the temperature extremes specified in the standard, ensuring continued structural integrity of wire bundle support in military applications.
