Section 10.2 of ASTM B187 covers the tensile testing requirements for copper bus bar, rod, and shapes. The test specimen is prepared and tested in accordance with standard tensile test methods to determine mechanical properties.
The tensile test measures ultimate tensile strength, yield strength (if specified), and elongation at fracture. These properties verify that the copper product meets the required mechanical performance for bus bar and general purpose applications.
Test specimens are taken from the product in its final delivered condition. The results are compared against the specification limits for the applicable copper alloy designation and temper condition.
