Method 4.5.3 is a pull test for electrical cable assemblies and cord assemblies. Cable assemblies are subjected to a static load applied between the connector and cable, with at least two feet of cable subjected to the load. The pull is applied parallel to the axis of the cable.
A static load of not less than 20 pounds is applied to cable assemblies having cable of 0.5-inch diameter or less. Cable assemblies having a cable diameter exceeding 0.5 inch and less than 0.75 inch are subjected to a static load of 40 pounds.
This test verifies that the cable-to-connector termination can withstand axial tensile forces without separation or degradation, ensuring reliability in service conditions where cables may experience pulling forces during installation or maintenance.
