The humidity testing offers a means of assessing the potential for a in-service connector and/or crimped contact degradation due to heat and humidity. The problems are most pronounced on components with significant imperfections in the component plating. This test seeks to assess the impact of high relative humidity at various temperatures.
The pass/fail criteria of this test are specification specific but are typically based on a limit set on the minimum performance before and after humidity exposure.
Parameters that can be changed for this test include:
- Number of specimen
- Humidity-temperature-duration conditions
- Number of exposure cycles
- Pre and post-exposure assessment methods

Procedure
- Perform visual examination of the specimen. Record any observed defects.
- Pre-condition the specimen in a dry oven at the specified temperature.
- Mount the specimen in the test jig and perform initial measurement (Voltage drop, insulation resistance, etc.).
- Place in a humidity chamber with the programmed humidity-temperature-time profile.
- Cycle the environmental conditions as specified.
- Perform assessment measurements while the specimen is still in a humidity chamber.
- Report the pre and post-exposure test results, exposure conditions, a number of specimen tested, and any other observations.
