Method 4.7.10 is a folding test for flat power cables. A specimen of cable 26 +/- 0.062 inches (660 +/- 1.6 mm) is folded 180 degrees transversely and pressed between two pieces of smooth-surfaced flat metal twice the width of the cable, with a pressure of 301 pounds of force per inch of cable width.
After 15 +/- 1 minutes under pressure, the specimen is unfolded and the pressure reapplied to the unfolded creased portion of the cable for an additional 15 +/- 1 minutes.
This test simulates the severe mechanical stress of folding that flat power cables may experience during installation in tight spaces aboard military vehicles and equipment, ensuring the cable can withstand such handling without electrical failure.
