A 5-foot minimum specimen is cut from a sample unit, and the ends of the specimen are cut squarely and carefully deburred. The specimens are placed in a heat chamber and conditioned for 6 hours minimum at the applicable test temperature. Heated air is circulated to maintain a uniform test temperature, and after the conditioning period, specimen is taken from the heat chamber and conditioned at ambient temperature for 4 hours minimum. Both ends of the specimen are measured for protrusion or contraction of the inner conductor.
