Method 4.8.6 tests cable sealant removability to determine whether filler materials can be readily removed from the constituent components of cable. This test does not apply to filler material used to fill voids between either conductor strands or braid strands.
The specimen is a 2-foot +/- 2-inch length of completed cable. Overall specimen components such as armors, jackets, overall binders, or shields are removed from one end of the specimen for a distance of not less than 10 inches, exposing the cable core.
Using fingers and standard hand tools, the sealant material must be removable from the individual insulated conductors and cable components to allow for proper termination and splicing of the cable.
