This test measures the concentricity (uniformity of insulation wall thickness around the conductor) of connector as specified in AS39029. Cross-sectional specimens are prepared and measured at multiple points around the circumference to determine minimum and maximum wall thickness.
Adequate concentricity ensures uniform electrical protection around the conductor. Poor concentricity can result in thin spots that are vulnerable to dielectric failure and mechanical damage.
This listing covers the AS39029 standards of axial concentricity for both wired and unwired contacts.
The axial concentricity quantitatively measures the concentricity of a wire or cable sample as a TIR (Total Indicator Reading) measurement. Removable contacts are placed at locations as indicated by the testing standard and rotated at least 360 degrees, such that a dial probe may measure the TIR.
