Method 4.8.15 is a hydrostatic test (open end) that determines the ability of completed cable, which is intended to pass through watertight bulkheads, to prevent the longitudinal flow of high-pressure water when properly installed in a bulkhead penetrator.
The specimen consists of a 60 +/- 2 inch length of completed cable. Armored cable shall have the armor removed to expose the cable outer jacket. The specimen shall be cut to length using a scissors-action cable cutter.
This test is critical for naval shipboard applications where cables must maintain watertight integrity when passing through compartment bulkheads, ensuring vessel survivability in damage control situations.
