Section 6.2 of ICEA S-81-570 specifies six mechanical abuse resistance tests on 1/0 AWG cable with 80-mil insulation. Tests include: Sharp Impact (10 lb-force-inch min), Blunt Impact (40 lb-force-inch), Abrasion (200 cycles to fail), Crush (650 lbs), Puncture (50 lbs), and Scoring (200 cycles to fail).
All testing is performed at 25.0 ±5.0°C per Appendix F apparatus. These tests evaluate the insulation’s ability to withstand the various types of mechanical damage that may occur during installation and service.
