This test evaluates the resistance of wire insulation to abrasion damage at temperature as specified in AS22759. The wire specimen is subjected to repeated rubbing or scraping action using a specified abrasion tool or medium until the insulation is penetrated to expose the conductor.
Abrasion resistance is a critical property for wire insulation in aerospace and industrial applications where wires may contact structure, other wires, or be subjected to vibration-induced rubbing. The number of cycles to failure provides a measure of the insulation’s durability.
