This test evaluates the resistance of cable to crush or deformation (pinch) damage as specified in J2394. The specimen is subjected to a controlled compressive force applied by a specified tool or fixture, simulating the mechanical damage that may occur during installation or routing.
After the deformation load is applied, the specimen is tested for dielectric integrity to determine whether the insulation still provides adequate electrical protection. This test is important for qualifying materials used in environments where mechanical compression damage is a concern.
